*sigh* Avatar Fanons
So pretty much an Avatar Fanons are fan made stories including characters from the original story (i.e. Katara, Iroh, Zuko) or characters related to the Avatar Universe (like maybe about the Fire Lord before Sozin).
In case you don’t understand yet I’ll give you the Urban Dictionary Definiton:
Fanon: A fanfiction term meaning the opposite of cannon. Something totally made up by the readers/watchers.
So you may be asking “what’s a cannon?” well here is it’s Urban Dictionary Definiton:
Cannon: Meaning that it is ‘of the story’ or something that could/did ACTUALLY happen in a story, used by fans and fanfictioners
Now I don’t totally agree with the above definitions but it suits the purpose. In my eyes, a fanon is simply just another word for fanfiction. fanon writers are usually fans (duh) who are unsatisfied with some of the cliff hangers or concepts of ATLA that were not explained. So, most of you know how it was never clearly stated what happened to Zuko’s mom, so a fan might write a fanon about that and express what their thoughts of the subject are.
Fanons usually include all aspects of regular stories. They have plot, characters, dialogue, conflict, etc. So, basically, its a fake plot for Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Generally, I do not enjoy reading Fanons for a few reasons:
1) They are SUPER long and waste a lot of time
2) The writing style is usually so-so
3) The names they pick for new characters are unrealistic
4) The whole story is unrealistic (it could never happen in the actual plot designed by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko)
Of course there are some Avatar Fanons out there that are actually very good quality, however these tend to be the longest and most time consuming. So if you want to know what other people think and have time to spare, I would read Avatar Fanons. I however would not waste my time.
